"Racing and teaching are two completely different things," says Sallaway. "Being good at one has little to do with being good at the other. Luckily I have worked in conditions and with people who are at the at the very top levels of both.”
> Why Patrick?
For over 9 years Patrick Sallaway has had the opportunity to work with drivers of all types - from teenagers getting behind the wheel for the first time, to current top level professional drivers from the ranks of NASCAR and the Indy Racing League From women and men who always wanted to try race driving "just once", to local and regional drivers in SCCA , the Ferrari Challenge, Grand-Am Cup, Vintage Racing groups and many more.
"I've found that a very broad segment of our society has an interest in cars to some degree," says Patrick. "All walks of life, all ages...we're a country of motorheads, I love that!"
"I also place myself right smack in the middle of that group; pursuing my passion for cars of all kinds, especially the fast ones! My advice - if you have that passion, pursue it! Invest in yourself and your driving skills before pouring a lot of resources, time and money into bolt-on parts for your racecar. That investment in yourself stays with you, it's in every car you drive, from that day on."
> Getting Started
If you've never been through a professional driving school, even if you have some track experience, there is no substitute! I strongly recommend this first step by signing up at a recognized training facility. Get the foundation built! There are many schools out there, but only a handful considered top level. I would be happy to recommend several that would fit your budget and needs.
> Now That You're Racing...
Congratulations! Next step: Continue your education. Never stop learning! Even Tiger Woods has a coach! Call to discuss your needs and plan a racing program:
• Your car at your track event
• Practice days
• One-on-one private sessions
• Daily rates
• Race weekend or Season contract
> A Fine Vintage
I'm finding that Vintage Racing is by far the fastest growing segment of our sport. It's fantastic to see these "Museums in Motion". I love working with the Vintage guys. They've been some of the most gratifying coaching experiences I've had. Hey you Vintage guys, give me a call! Let's see those cars where they were meant to be - on the track!
